Mrs. Ambika ,35-year-old, hailing from Gulbarga during her 7th month of pregnancy developed extremely high blood pressure. The couple were advised for termination of pregnancy in view of the mother’s condition and the need for NICU admission for the neonate after delivery. They were counselled that the baby must be referred to a higher centre for advanced neonatal care and the probable cost of NICU care was estimated to be very high. The couple contacted Dr Soumya Patil, Obstetrician at JSS hospital and sought advice from her. After discussion with Dr Soumya and Neonatal team regarding the treatment and availability of advanced NICU facility, parents decided to travel to Mysore for delivery. Dr. Soumya took care of the mother’s blood pressure other health issue. After stabilisation at OBG department, a baby boy was delivered at 28 weeks (7 months) a baby boy weighing only 1.2 kgs on 5th January 2021. The baby was extremely premature who got admitted to our NICU and started on respiratory and other lifesaving support. Preterm babies are very delicate and pose a great challenge in management as they are prone for infections, feeding issues and other problems. The NICU team consisting of Dr. Srinivasa Murthy, Dr. Sushma, Dr. Deepti, Dr. Nandish, postgraduates and nurses cared for the baby in the NICU. After 45 days, baby was weighing 1.4 Kgs, tolerating feeds, no infection and all the brain scans were normal and was ready to go home. Baby was discharged on 8th Feb 2021.
