Paediatric Airway Foreign body removal - Dept of Paediatric Surgery ,JSS Hospital, Mysore. Recently a 7 year old girl was referred from a private hospital of Mysore to JSS Hospital , Mysore on mechanical ventilation with history of gasping at admission and 2 episodes of respiratory arrest. She had been ventilated for 2 days before referral. She had fever and cough for 1 month prior to the acute symptoms. She was evaluated and diagnosed as foreign body aspiration. An emergency bronchoscopy was done and organic foreign bodies (chickpeas 2-3 in number) removed in pieces . She improved dramatically post procedure and weaned off from ventilation in 12hrs and discharged. Dept. of Paediatric surgery has a vast experience in dealing with pediatric airway emergencies especially rigid bronchoscopy for aspirated foreign bodies.
