Dept. of Nutrition and Dietetics plays an important role to make sure that nutritional care is an integral component of patient care. Nutritional status will be assessed, counselled regarding diets and educational leaflets are given according to their disease conditions for referred OPD and In Patients from various departments like OBG, Paediatrics, cardiology, medicine, surgery etc.
Our Dept. was started as a Diabetic Care Centre in the year 1991. In the year 2014 we were formally established as Department of Nutrition & Dietetics and started with In-patient food service for all patients catering from the hospital. We were team of two dieticians and today the department is full-fledged with 9 dieticians. We work in shift duties from morning 7am to 7 pm to monitor In-patient food service.
In-patients nutritional status is being maintained throughout their stay in hospital by assessing, developing, evaluating, implementing diet plan and providing hygienically prepared, adequate, timely, appropriate diets like normal diet , therapeutic diet, patients on Ryles tube and PEG feed to all in-patients based on their medical requirements to maintain nutritional status and educating them along with their family regarding nutritional care.
We have extended service for BELAKU CLINIC (where we give nutritional advice to the lactating mother and weaning infants), and for geriatric population in GERITARIC CLINIC, for all patients who ever comes to MHC.
The dieticians are also involved in training interns from JSS university, handling classes for inter disciplinary departments (Integrated community medicine students , MBA students, nursing and food handlers) and attending various camps organised by the hospital.
