What is Knee Arthroscopy?

Knee arthroscopy is a surgical technique that enables surgeons to view the knee joint through an arthroscope via a small incision. Wide range of knee issues are diagnosed and treated with arthroscopy.

Your surgeon will insert a small camera called arthroscope in the knee joint. The camera shows pictures on monitor, the surgeon uses these images to direct specifically designed arthroscopic surgical instruments to sort out the problems.

This result in less discomfort, reduced joint stiffness, minimal bleeding, lesser chances of infection and also shortens the time it takes for healing and returns to desired activities.

  • Meniscectomy
  • Meniscal Allograft

Benefits Of Knee Arthroscopy
Diagnostic:

Therapeutic:

  • Less invasive compared to open surgeries.
  • Minimal damage to tissues.
  • A quicker recovery.
  • Low rate of infection.
  • Minimal blood loss.

Life After Knee Arthroscopy:

  • Most Knee arthroscopy requires a hospital stay (inpatient procedure).
  • Food after 4-6 hours of surgery.
  • 1st post-operative dressing on the next day of surgery.
  • Walking on the 1st postoperative day in front of the operating surgeon (with walker, partial or full weight bearing as adviced by the operating surgeon).
  • No pain after 2 days of surgery.
  • Can resume daily routine after within a week after surgery.
  • Back to normal 6-8 weeks post-surgery.
  • Return to all competitive sports within 6-9 months post-surgery.

Knee arthroscopy procedures are safe and effective. They help Orthopedic Surgeons diagnose and treat a wide range of injuries without the need for large incisions. Minimally invasive techniques usually require less recovery time than traditional (open) surgery. If your Orthopedic Doctor recommends a Physiotherapy program after the procedure, follow instructions carefully. Sticking to a Physiotherapy program can help you get back on your feet after surgery.
