Dr Basavana Gowdappa : a passionate teacher, committed researcher. As the Principal of the Medical college and Professor of Medicine he has distinguished himself as good administrator and efficient teacher and is admired by his students and liked by his patients for his humane approach. He obtained his MD in General Medicine from University of Mysore and started his career at JSS Medical College in the year 1987 and currently is the principal of JSS Medical College since 2009 & Dean of Faculty of Medicine,JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, Mysore since 2009.
His area of clinical and research interest is in cardio metabolic disorders. He has several research publications to his credit, has delivered many orations and organized conferences, besides conducting several global multicentric clinical trials in the field of Diabetes and Cardiological disorders. He has been awarded with 14 oration awards at various national and international conferences and seminars, received 4 social honours, 2 lifetime achievement awards. Moreover, he has also received an ICMR research grant of Rs. 53 Lakhs for “Study on Estimation of Prevalence of Hypertension and Diabetes among Jenu kuruba tribe”. He has guided 14 students for MD General Medicine, 3 research scholars for PhD program and is currently guiding 3 MD students and 3 PhD scholars. He has also been awarded Fellowship of Indian College of Cardiology (FICC) in the year 2005 and the Fellowship of American College of Physicians (ACP) in the year 2018. He has been awarded research grant of 1.76 Crores of INR as PI for Mission Covid Suraksha project (MCS) from DBT- BIRAC on May 2021.
Has been awarded National Master teacher award by Indian College of Physicians in the virtual conference held on March 2021.
Fellowship of Indian College of Cardiology (FICC) in the year 2005 and the Fellowship of American College of Physicians (ACP) in the year 2018. Membership:-National: API, CSI, IMA, IMA-AMS, RSSDI, HIS, ACP
