The department of Nephrology at JSS Hospital was the first of its kind in the entire Mysore and neighboring districts. Ours was the only hospital which provided comprehensive nephrology care for almost a decade since its inception. Over the last 3 decades that the department has grown enormously both in terms of faculty strength as well as the services rendered. The department has 4 experienced faculty headed by Dr.Manjunath S Shetty.
We are one of the few centres in Karnataka State to offer Renal transplantation at a very low cost and to have an active Deceased Donor Programme.
We are the single largest dialysis center in Mysore catering to the needs of even seropositive patients (HBV & HCV). We also have an active CAPD programme for long term dialysis. We have dedicated dialysis machines, CRRT & SLED machines for dialysis in critical care areas. We are performing plasmapherisis and hemoperfusion for poisoning and drug over dosage cases. We are providing pediatric nephrology services including peritoneal dialysis for the young.
One of the few hospitals in Karnataka performing real time ultrasound guided renal biopsies with an in house Nephro-pathology backup.
The department is also running BSc in renal dialysis technology and DM in Nephrology.
The department has played an active role during the covid times in managing critically ill covid patients requiring dialysis. The department had a separate dialysis unit for covid positive patients.
