Dr. Sushma K MD (Pediatrics) completed her graduation from Sri Devraj Urs Medical College, Kolar in 2002 and went on to complete her post-graduation in Pediatrics from Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences, Bangalore in 2006. She started her teaching career as Lecturer in St. Johns Medical College. Later, she got an opportunity to pursue her interest in the field of Neonatology and successfully completed her Fellowship from K.R. Hospital, Bangalore under RGUHS. After a short stint in a corporate hospital, she joined JSS Medical College in 2012 as Senior Resident. In 2014, she was promoted as Assistant Professor and has been working in this institute till date.  She was selected for an Observership at John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, USA sponsored by the Indian Giani Fund.

Dr.Sushma.K has specialized in field of Neonatology with areas of interest being birth asphyxia and preterm care. She now has close to 10 years of experience. She has handled many complicated, challenging and sick newborns with successful outcomes. Teaching being her first call, she has been actively involved in teaching nursing, undergraduate and postgraduate students in the department. She is also a certified national trainer for Basic and Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Program under Indian Academy of Paediatrics and National Neonatology Forum. Building on the experience she had during her Observership, she has been instrumental in starting a high-risk, multi-disciplinary follow up clinic for neonates in JSS Hospital, which has evolved over the years into ‘BELAKU’ clinic, facilitating holistic development of babies with various problems. This clinic in collaboration with physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, land nutritionist focuses on high-risk babies with growth and developmental issues.
