The Department of Orthopaedics at JSSMC was started in the year 1985 with the clear vision of Academic excellence, Advance learning and to give service to the society at community, state, national and international level. It is equipped with State of the art facility and caters to the need of people of Mysore and also with a capacity of 120 beds and emergency services 24×7.

The Department of Orthopaedics at JSSMC has different units catering to various Sub specialties developed in the field of Orthopaedics such as Paediatric Orthopaedics, Hand and Microvascular Surgery, Deformity Correction, Spine surgeries, Joint Replacement Surgeries, Reconstructive Surgeries, Arthroscopy, Sports Injuries and Complex Trauma which allows the patients to get the best, specialized and focused treatment based on their symptoms.

Superspeciality Units

  • Unit 1- Hand Surgery, Deformity correction, Paediatric Orthopaedics, trauma
  • Unit 2- Spine surgeries, trauma
  • Unit 3- Joint replacement surgeries, pelviacetabular surgeries, trauma
  • Unit 4- Arthroscopy, sports medicine, trauma

The department has a state-of the art orthopaedic operation theatre for super specialty surgeries and general orthopaedic operations and is equipped with all instruments & implants for round the clock emergency and trauma surgeries. The department is supported by an intensive care unit & surgical ICU with ventilators for the critically ill patients

All the faculty have specialized training in their respective sub specialities which allows the department to give specialized care and manage any orthopaedic problem which arises in the society. It also gives the post graduates who are training in the institute ample amount of exposure in various subspecialities in depth so that they can also develop interest in any of the subspecialities and pursue it further and become an asset to the society.

The department conducts daily teaching sessions, bedside clinics, grand rounds, seminars, journal clubs with excellent hands on exposure to all kinds of surgeries in OTs on rotational basis for all the postgraduates. It conducts regular teaching sessions, bedside clinics and clinical case scenarios for the undergraduates posted to the department.

In continuum with the Postgraduate teaching and clinics, the department of orthopaedics at JSSMC is well equipped to conduct various research projects and has numerous publications in scopus indexed journals.

The Department in coordination with the Department of Occupational Therapy, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Physiotherapy and Artificial Limb center has created an environs of a comprehensive rehabilitation center for post trauma care.

OPD

IPD

  • Inpatient Admissions Separately for Male and Female, Special Wards.

  • Fracture Fixation, Arthroplasty, Arthroscopy, Deformity Corrections.

Special / Evening / Daycare Clinics

  • SPECIALITY CLINICS (Timings – 6.00pm – 8.00pm)

Critical Care

  • Facilities available for treating polytrauma patients with multiple organ problems associated with musculoskeletal injuries which include well equipped 3 operation theatres with all advanced equipment, postoperative and surgical intensive care for managing high-risk patients, support of other specialities like cardiology, neurosurgery, plastic surgery will make polytrauma management safe.

Extension Activities

  • Department supports social extension activities like attending and arranging medical camps, both general and as well as musculoskeletal disability-related.
  • Faculties are engaged in giving public awareness through radio and paper media.
  • Department supports our sister concerned JSSH at Chamrajanagar, JSS Hospital, suttur etc.

Others

  • Research is an ongoing activity of the department. The faculty and students are encouraged to advance their learning by attending CMEs, workshops, fellowships etc.
