Dr Gurudutt is the Professor and the Head of the Department of Anesthesiology at JSS Medical College and Hospital, Mysuru and has been working with the institution for the past 5 ½ years. After completing his MBBS in Mysore Medical College (1971 to 1976) he joined as a Captain in the Indian Army and served for six years (1977 – 1983) during which period he had served in the state of Jammu & Kashmir field area for 4years which won him the Seva medal for his hard work. He later served as a Government medical officer in a remote Primary Health Unit. On the completion of his DA and MD in Anesthesiology, with distinction, from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore (1989 – 1991), he started his academic career and served at Government Medical College, Bellary for 14 years as well as Professor & HOD for 9 years in Mysore Medical College & Research Institute. Over the span of his 32 years of teaching career, he has taught many a student the nuances of the subject, helping his students build strong fundamentals in examination techniques and at the same time encouraging them to have a scientific approach towards the subject. “Teaching has always been my biggest passion.”, he says proudly. Apart from the regular classes that he teaches at the institution, he has always taken time out of his schedule to conduct classes for DNB students. Along with his contributions as a teacher, he has also been an active participant in multiple CMEs, national, zonal and state conferences, where he has been requested to deliver lectures on diverse topics in the field of anesthesia. His articles in multiple national and state journals, his role as an Associate editor and member of the editorial board of the Indian Journal of Anesthesia and his role as a member of the board of studies at RGUHS, are among his many other achievements. Moreover, he has also served as a Chairman for the Academic Society of Mysore Medical College & Research for 6 years.
