Over more than three decades, as a physician-scientist, my research is primarily focused on addressing global health concerns in limited resource settings like India. After completing my MD degree in pediatrics (1986), I have joined as teaching faculty for undergraduates and postgraduates and continued my passion for teaching for 9 years in government medical colleges and remaining period in JSS Medical College & University. My research interests include communicable and non-communicable diseases of public health importance. I was instrumental in a study of obesity involving 43,000 school children which is the largest study in the world and in establishing growth charts for Indian children between 5 to 18 years of age in the year 2010-2015 (which were not included in WHO growth charts). My special interests in infectious diseases wherein I could occupy the highest post of chairman of National IAP Infectious Disease Chapter in India in the year 2019. I have published research articles in peer-reviewed journals on malaria, typhoid, leptospira, diarrheal disorders, tuberculosis, dengue fever, etc. Another important area of my work is in congenital heart diseases and genetics in association with Department of Genetics, Mysore University. I was one of the national trainers in national programs like NTEP, monsoon maladies, antimicrobial stewardship, asthma training module, fever module, WAR (Write Antibiotics Responsibly), etc. I have worked as head of the department for 15 years and involved in curriculum development and teaching and learning activities of JSSAHER. With the enormous experience in teaching field and conducting studies in both communicable and non-communicable diseases in limited resource settings
