Dr. M. D. Ravi B.Sc., DCH, MD (Ped) graduated from Kasturba Medical College Manipal/Mangalore. He completed his MD in 1981. He was the best outgoing student in undergraduate group and secured a distinction in MD. He started his career in MS Ramiah Medical College in 1981 and did a short stint abroad from 1989-96. He has been in JSS MC from 1996. He is currently Professor of Pediatrics. He has held many posts including Vice Principal JSSMC, Director JSS Hospital, Chairman Board of Studies and Chairman HICC JSS Hospital. He is the head of the WHO AEFI (Adverse events following immunization) sentinel site ate JSS Hospital and Chairman of CDSA CCRE (Centre for development of scientific activity under Govt of India, Centre for clinical research excellence). His main interests are vaccinology and nutrition. He has published several papers in national and international journals, has given talks in innumerable conferences and training programs nationally and internationally and has completed more than a dozen clinical trials, mostly on vaccines. He has been the guide for a number of pediatric postgraduate students, mentor for undergraduate students and guide for Ph.D students. He has completed several research projects and has ongoing projects as well. He currently is head of Unit 2 in the pediatrics department. He has more than 4 decades of experience in pediatric care both emergency and routine cases and continues to run an OPD and manage ward cases
Dr. Ravi has handled many complicated and unusual cases with successful outcomes. He is the primary care physician for a large number of thalassemic children who are being treated free at JSS Hospital. His unit also handles Type 1 Diabetes mellitus in children under the leadership of Dr. Rashmi, Associate Professor. His unit has the honor of being able to save a child with aluminium phosphide poisoning, the only child saved from this poisoning in the department.
