As we know very well, headache is the most common clinical symptom in the Neurology practice more than one third of patients attending to Neurology OPD are headache patients.
Headache is a disease which is according for major loss of economy and quality of life of most of the patients. Unfortunately, headache is treated by multiple specialities, including a quack which is a problem. Patients consume over-the-counter painkillers without prescription, which becomes a habit and lead to state called analgesic induced headache. Painkillers may produce headache in rebound, which can be not only hazardous, but also can result in renal failure. The most important management aspect in headache, medicine is correct diagnosis. There are multiple forms of headache which include primary headaches and secondary headaches.
Primary headaches include migraine, headache, cluster headache, tension, type, headache, and headache with autonomic cephalalgia. Autonomic cephalalgia include trigeminal neuralgia, suna, sunct .
Secondary headaches include headache, secondary infections, tumours, vascular problems, and so on.
Patients can come with a very common form of headache like migraine to describe one sided headache with increased sensitivity to sound or light or smell with nausea Vomiting Headache, generally lasts for 4 to 72 hours impairing quality of life. It’s a very common headache of little practice. Headaches in migraine can be episodic or chronic. Generally, patients go to pharmacist and gulp a painkiller which is a huge mistake. Migraine in pathophysiology is secondary to neural inflammation and hyper excitability. Multiple chemicals called neurotransmitters are implicated in causation of migraine. Diagnosis of migraine requires good scientific knowledge by the clinician and apt management.
