Established in the year 1986 to provide comprehensive and quality health care to women, the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology has progressed from a centre providing basic obstetrics and gynaecology care to a centre of excellence in teaching, training, research and innovation with dedicated and experienced faculty.
Most of the faculties in the department are well experienced and trained in High risk obstetrics, ultrasonography, hysterolaproscopy and reproductive medicine.They do have publications (original research articles and case reports) in SCOPUS and WOS (Web of Science) Indexed journals with good impact factor.
The department has got very good infrastructure to take care of women both is outpatient and inpatient. In outpatient, there is facility for doing ultrasonography, screening the women for cervical cancer using Colposcopy and also there is minor OT to carryout minor procedures on OPD basis. The department has OPD from 9 AM to 5PM on all working days and 10AM to 1 PM on Sundays and General Holidays. OPD Specialty Clinics in Adolescent health, Menopausal clinic are available.
The department also has got state of the art HDU (High dependency unit) to take care of women with high risk factors (both pregnant and non-pregnant) department has got 2labour wards high risk and low risk labour wards to deliver separately the women with low risk pregnancy and pregnancy with high risk factors. The labour cases will be attended by our expert obstetricians. The Obstetrics department also has an excellent NICU support and blood bank facility.
Our department takes great pride in being one of the centers with advanced endoscopic facilities. Endoscopic surgeries like Diagnostic Hysterolaparoscopy , Laparoscopic hysterectomy, Laparoscopic Myomectomy, Hysteroscopic septoplasty and many more are carried out regularly by expert faculty.The department has 3 operations theaters with 1 OT exclusively dedicated for carrying out basic and advanced hysterolaparoscopic surgeries.
A well established Infertility Level 1 ART centre was started in 2021 and is running successfully. Andrology lab is located at the 5th floor of JSS Hospital, which is taken care of by the well experienced clinical embryologist. Semen analysis will be carried out as per the WHO guidelines and IUI procedures are being carried out in the andrology lab.
The department offers MBBS, MS and MSc in Clinical Embryology courses. Postgraduate and undergraduate students and interns will be trained in obstetric drills, surgical skills including ultrasound and hysterolaparoscopy periodically in the skill and simulation lab of JSS AHER.
Apart from teaching and training as a part of the curriculum, the staffs of our department participate whole-heartedly in various outreach programmes. They attend health camps organized by different organizations, take care of antenatal patients in the urban slum of Mysore at UHC –Bamboo Bazaar, extend health care services to women attending JSS Hospital at Chamaraja Nagara.
