The department of Surgical Gastroenterology deals with the clinical problems of the digestive tract that need surgical intervention. Surgical technology has been refined and treatment of benign and cancerous diseases of the digestive tract has evolved alongside it as a super specialty. Rapid advances in the field of surgery namely “Minimal access surgery” or “Key hole surgery” i.e. Laparoscopic surgery and organ transplantation are very closely associated with abdominal surgery further widening the horizons of surgical Gastroenterology.
The department offers wide variety of surgical procedures for all the diseases related to gastrointestinal, liver and pancreas. The department is equipped with state of the art equipment to compliment the experienced staff to offer high class service to our patients.
The Division of Surgical Gastroenterology at JSS Hospital Mysore has highly skilled and experienced surgeons. The surgeons of Jss hospitals have expertise in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, colorectal surgery, bariatric surgery and GI surgical oncology. They perform hundreds of surgeries with a very high success rate.
They are well recognised for their performance of complex surgeries with good outcomes. The surgeons undertake a multidisciplinary approach for complex surgeries. The surgical team is backed up by efficient support services who strive for achieving the highest patient satisfaction.
The department h as became a referral centre for complicated cases from surrounding districts.

OPD
- Patients are seen on Tuesday and Thursday in the outpatient block of the hospital.
- Patients with problems of the GIT like GI malignancies, Jaundice, obesity, bleeding per rectum, inflammatory bowel disease are seen in the OPD
IPD
- Dedicated male and female wards are present for surgical gastroenterology.
- Special and deluxe wards are available for patients who desire them
- Trained nursing staff to look after patients with GI problems like stoma are present
