Oral Hygiene day is celebrated all across India on August 1st to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. G B Shankwalkar, the doyen of Indian Periodontology and founding member of Indian Society of periodontology. Diabetes is a metabolic disease with a hyperglycemic state several signs and symptoms are classical of diabetes including polydipsia polyuria polyphagia. Uncontrolled diabetes leads to various complications, like kidney disease, cardiovascular changes; impaired wound healing periodontitis (gum disease) is also considered a 6th complication of diabetes. Research suggests that gum treatment to an extent reduces blood sugar levels hence the significance of oral hygiene and dental care.
