Dr. Sowmya G. S

Dr. Sowmya G S is an Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology at JSS Medical College, JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research Mysuru. She is both an under graduate and post graduate alumni of our institution. As a faculty of Department of Microbiology, her responsibilities have been largely focused on Teaching and training undergraduate and postgraduates of Medical, Dental, Physiotherapy and Nursing students, Diagnostic microbiology and Research. Her work is mainly focused on genetic and phenotypic analysis of bacterial drug resistance patterns, in evaluating various methods of detection of drug resistance patterns and diagnosis of fungal infections.

She has undergone training in PCR techniques, Diagnostic mycology and Internal audit & Quality management systems. The training in Internal audit and Quality management systems for NABL & NABH accreditation has helped her in auditing and organizing their departmental stores and workflow in a very organized manner and in managing the Hospital Information System of department. She has been the department co-ordinator for NAAC & IQAC related activities. She has been a faculty and resource person in various workshops such as., Hands on training workshops of Antibiotic susceptibility detection, Diagnostic mycology and Diagnostic microbiology.

She is an Editorial Board member of International Journal of Health and Allied Sciences and a member of Medical Education Unit and UG Board of Studies of JSS Medical College. She has guided four undergraduate students for STS projects funded by ICMR, New Delhi She has several research publications to her credit in peer reviewed journals and has presented scientific papers at various International, National and State conferences.
